STEPHEN PASSERO TO LEAD SHOREWALK
Effective immediately Shorewalk has a new leader and President. Stephen Passero, a Fort Erie businessman and successful fundraising chairman for Shorewalk, has been appointed and endorsed by outgoing and founding President Garry Skerrett. Garry has resigned the presidency due to health problems but will continue on in an advisory capacity.
Stephen has indicated that under his leadership the prime focus of the Shorewalk agenda will be Right of Passage with free public walking rights and no obstructing fences on all of Onatario’s Great Lakes Shores.
Locally, in Fort Erie, he intends for Shorewalk to monitor the recent successful Town by-laws prohibiting encroachments on public road allowances to ensure that the intent of the by-law is carried out.
Best wishes and continued progress for our new leader, Stephen Passero.

REST AT RIDGEWAY FEST
Saturday
& Sunday
July 7th and 8th 2007
What
a great weekend for Shorewalk! Our
membership rose from 1200 to over 1700 during the two day festival thanks
to work from a team of volunteers lead by Betty Van Osch.
It was clear from the outset on Saturday morning that Shorewalk
has great name recognition and support.
Our team would engage
festival goers in conversation as they strolled by and mention encroachment
policy and right of passage and ask for support. Many came to our booth
and signed up as members, usually with strong words of encouragement.
We sometimes take
the small town atmosphere of Ridgeway for granted but newcomers and
recent arrivals are quick to remind us. This is a great community and
part of what is highly appreciated is the lakefront. Sad to say, many
newcomers did remind us of the fact that restricted waterfront access
comes as an unwelcome surprise to some.
We’re making
great strides, however; Our access improves with the new encroachment
policy and, with perseverance, Right of Passage will come as well.
Kudos to our volunteer
team: Mary and Joe Lishka, Lisa Ciolfi, John and Elinor King, Elrie
Thompson, Tom Nielson, Delia and Dave Shaw, Blain Cole, Serena Smith,
Paul Kassay, Doug and Nancy Taylor, Harvey Grenn, Rita Eastman, Garry
Skerrett and most importantly our event organizer and membership chairperson,
Betty Van Osch.
